Sport arena Mirniy

A multifunctional sports complex was inaugurated in Mirny, Arkhangelsk region. The modern sports arena for training and national competitions was built by the Directorate of special construction on the territory of North-West Federal District.

The new arena centers around a football field with artificial turf of last generation and seats up to 2,000. The complex also has race tracks, track and field areas, and an indoor ice hockey arena, built from scratch. Inside the arena there are tiers for spectators, comfortable locker rooms and washrooms for athletes, a sauna, and utility space for storing equipment and ice resurfacers, and running climate control systems. Tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, football and mini-football pitches, gyms - all this has become accessible to the residents of Mirny, the town that serves the Plesetsk Cosmodrome. 

During the construction works, the specialists took into account not only the international requirements for building modern sports facilities, but also soft local ground and challenging weather conditions of the region. Due to special attention to robustness requirements, the stadium will resist any natural disaster.

Among those who took part in the opening ceremony were the head of the Plesetsk Cosmodrome, major general Nikolay Nesterchuk, Arkhangelsk region deputy governor, Alexey Alsufiev, the head of the Department for Special construction of Aerospace Forces objects, Igor Kraev, the regional representative of PSO Pharaoh, Andrey Zalesskiy, citizens of Mirny who represented the youth sports school and Officer’s club, and a military orchestra. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly a friendly game between the team of artists and football veterans and that of the Cosmodrome staff and local athletes. The opening ceremony also featured a number of performances, such as those of Ex BB show band, Otpetye Moshenniki music band, artists of Moscow theatre of opera and ballet. Ex-players of legendary football clubs CSKA and Spartak also appeared on the emerald grass of the new stadium. The arena was just packed with spectators. At the same time, first sports competitions were already taking place on other sports ground of the new complex.
